What Kids Can Teach You About Job Interviews
What Kids Can Teach You About Job Interviews Job interviews can be quite a daunting experience and the way you conduct yourself can be crucial to whether you are successful or not. To ensure your best performance in an interview, identifying some simple doâs and donâts in advance are really helpful for preparing yourself and what better way to to demonstrate this than from the point of view of kids. This video from âKid Snippetsâ plays out a job interview scenario and believe it or not, through the humorous facade, some valuable lessons can actually be taken from it, so have a watch! Takeaways: DO Present yourself smartly. Although appropriate attire may vary between industries, your clothes should be clean and tidy. Body language also speaks volumes and may tell your interviewer more about yourself than what you actually say, so make sure you sit up straight and maintain eye contact throughout your interview. DONâT forget your manners. Confidence is a valuable attribute in an interview situation, however, over-asserting yourself may come across as rude and you donât want to appear too forceful. Be polite and attentive. Listening carefully to your interviewerâs questions, will help you to respond with your best possible answer. DO Your research prior to the interview. Read the job description thoroughly and pin point your relevant skills and experience that will be beneficial in that role. Prepare for questions you may be asked and avoid skipping past any questions that catch you off guard. Answer all questions to the best of your ability, remaining to the point and avoid rambling as you may drift off topic. DONâT Rush into a discussion about salary. Jumping the gun may ruin your chances of being considered so time it carefully. The first interview is probably not the ideal opportunity to bring it up, as this is your chance to convince your interviewer to hire you and salary discussion is best saved for once they have decided that you are in fact the one for the job. DO Ask questions of your own. Show interest in the company and the role you are interviewing for. It also gives you the opportunity to gage what would be expected of you in that role and how your performance will be monitored or reviewed. RELATED: How To Best Prepare For Your Job Interview

Staying Fit with a Stressful Career
Staying Fit with a Stressful Career Happy Monday morning! I have no doubt that Mondays set the tone (no pun intended) for the rest of our week. Start your week with energy and intention today by doing something for your body. Even 10 minutes of push-ups, sit-ups and squats in your bedroom can change the course of your week no matter how stressful and busy it is. Id even go as far as arguing that, in the long-run, staying fit can make you have a much more successful career. Cheers, Nicole By, Carol Montrose Although many adults bemoan the loss of their teenage body as they sag and put on weight over the years following high school, it can be extremely difficult to work fitness into a daily routine that is already largely taken up with a long and stressful work day (and in some cases, family obligations). Not only is it hard to muster the energy to exercise when youâve barely got time to eat and sleep, but stress from your job can leave you too fatigued and mentally drained to put even an ounce of effort into your own health and well-being. However, if you can manage to motivate yourself into adding a daily fitness regimen to your schedule, youâll find that you actually have more energy, less stress, and a better overall outlook on life. Here are a few ways to fit it in. 1. Rise early. This can be undeniably tough, but by squeezing in just 30 minutes of exercise in the morning, you can improve your stamina for the entire day. It will not only get your blood pumping and leave you feeling great first thing in the morning, it will also help to clear the cobwebs from your mind so that you can approach your work with confidence and a can-do attitude. But if you canât stop hitting the snooze button, work out at night instead. Just make sure to finish with an extended cool-down to relax your body and brain for some seriously deep sleep. 2. Start with cardio. If you do nothing else, find a way to work some simple cardio into your daily routine. Doctors recommend 30 minutes of cardio 3-4 times a week as minimum maintenance for a healthy heart and body. You can stave off heart disease, diabetes, and a number of other ailments, as well as shedding some of those unwanted pounds that have mysteriously found their way onto your midsection over the last few years. 3. Take a class. If motivation (or a complete lack thereof) tends to be your worst enemy when it comes to fitness, try joining a class at a nearby gym or your local community college (where tuition is not too expensive and enough people need health credits that there are a lot of different classes offered). When youâre paying, youâre more likely to show up, and then the question of motivation is covered because youâll have an instructor to push you. Plus, you donât have to worry about planning the workout and youâll probably make friends with some of the other people there, creating an instant environment of support. 4. Incorporate healthy eating. Exercise is good for you, but it will only take you so far without a healthy diet alongside. You probably know whatâs âbadâ for you when it comes to food, but if youâre having trouble embracing proper eating habits, consider joining a program that teaches you to eat better for life. You wonât be sorry. 5. Enlist a friend. If all else fails, get a friend on board to go through the process with you. Most people donât like approaching fitness solo, and if you drag a friend along, you can both benefit from the support and encouragement of the other even as you build a stronger bond.

Your Smile Is Your First Impression Make It Bright!
Your Smile Is Your First Impression Make It Bright! Think about the last time you walked into a room full of strangers. While youre subconsciously assessing your surroundings, youre likely to be consciously looking for one or two people who seem approachable. And the smile they project, or dont, is key in your selections. Yes, were all naturally drawn to friendly people, and a great smile is a warm invitation to connect. However, all smiles are not created equal. What Makes A Smile More Attractive? Medical science has learned that our dental health has a significant affect on our general health. Why is that important to note? While we certainly have empathy for those who have health challenges, were naturally drawn to those who are healthy, so a healthy smile is inviting for more than just the visual attraction. That said, heres what makes a smile more physically attractive, according to Dentistry.com. White Teeth and Teeth Whitening If you have any doubt about how important having whiter teeth is, think about it this way. On the opposite ends of the scale are the extremes of super white teeth, and grungy gray/yellow teeth. Which of those two would you find more attractive? While few people are at the extremes, they do fall somewhere on the scale. And that means were subconsciously ranking them. Of course, with todays dental technology, you dont have to endure dingy teeth. You can even do it at home, with options like gogo smiles Home whitening kit. Or, if youre more adventurous you can try laser teeth whitening or charcoal teeth whitening to get the results you want. Remember that once you have your teeth white, avoiding teeth-staining foods and drinks will help keep them that way. Straight Teeth Having properly aligned teeth not only adds to a quality smile, it makes overall dental hygiene easier. When your teeth are straight it also makes chewing foods easier and more efficient. Whereas in the past an orthodontic procedure might take years, modern dental technology has reduced that greatly. Gone are the days of annoying wires and cables except in the most extreme cases. While a complete orthodontic treatment is fairly expensive, it returns many benefits. Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing that smile youve always wanted. Thats priceless! Tooth Condition You might have super white teeth that are perfectly aligned, but have a chip or cavity that ruins that otherwise perfect smile. Procedures to correct small imperfections are relatively simple and painless, and can usually be completed in one or two visits to your dental professional. Theres no need to be envious of those great smiles you see out there. Take care of whats needed, and soon youll be smiling brightly and making a dazzling first impression! Image credits. Main. Cover Letter (Part 2) Avoid Irritating the Hiring Folks with 4 More Tips - Hire Imaging
Cover Letter (Part 2) Avoid Irritating the Hiring Folks with 4 More Tips - Hire Imaging Cover letters are your first impression in most cases. As discussed in Part 1, sometimes the âmistakeâ is glaring; sometimes itâs more understated. Hereâs a look at a few of the latter. We covered three oops examples in Part 1. Here are four more and tips on how to avoid them. Again, these examples are taken from my client filesâ"all true real-life examples from their before letters. Cover Letter: Oops #4 Tone turmoil. Tone problems are subtle and may be sometimes hard to identify. When reading your cover letter, watch for tone problems by asking yourself, after each sentence, âDoes this statement boost my application or standing? Could a hiring manager interpret it in an unfavorable light?â Have a second reader review your letter. If the letterâs wording is questionable, rewrite it. A cover letter should balance a middle ground between extremely formal, which can come across as pretentious, and extremely informal, which can come across as presumptuous. Try to sound genuine, not stilted. When in doubt, err on the side of formality. Cover Letter: Oops #5 Incorrect employer information. If you were an employer, would you want to hire a candidate who confuses your companyâs products and services, or misquotes recent activities? It happens! Iâve heard stories from candidates and hiring managers attesting to this! Verifying accuracy of any company information mentioned in your letter is the step to preventing this type of oops. On the other hand, if you havenât researched the company, donât bluff. Statements like âI know about your companyâ or âI am familiar with your productsâ signal to an employer that you havenât done your homework. Cover Letter: Oops #6 Witty anecdotes. Picture yourself in an interview setting, face to face with a hiring manager youâve never met prior to the interview. Trying to be funny in this scenario is not recommended. It certainly is not appropriate in the initial cover letter communications. Remain professional and polite. If this seems like a no-brainer, let me tell you Iâve seen it! Iâve seen cover letters containing every humor attempt from cartoons, to one-liners, to statements like â[insert candidateâs name here] can leap tall buildings at a single bound.â Cover Letter: Oops #7 Clichés and comparisons. Avoid using clichés and obvious comparisons. Hiring folks have seen it all; and they will not be impressed. In fact, these types of expressions detract from your letterâs primary function: to highlight your most notable skill sets, qualifications and value relevant to the targeted job and company. True file examples of what not to do: âI am a people person. âTeamwork is my middle name.â âYour practice is known as the crème de la crème of law firms.â âI am as sharp as a tack.â âIn all your candidates, I am the bright and shining star. Cover letter: do and donât bonus tips: Do make sure your contact information is included (omission happens quite often). Do keep the letter brief and to the point. Do accentuate what you can offer the company, not what you hope to gain from them. Donât just repeat information verbatim from your resume. Donât overuse the personal pronoun âIâ. Donât send a generic or form letter. Whether you are a cashier or a CEO, a career changer or climber, thereâs a common denominator with cover letters. They have to catch the attention of the hiring manager. Thereâs a wrong way and a right way to do this. We know that a cover letter should contain zero typos and be grammatically correct. But this is your introduction to the people you want to be picked by. There are nuances; itâs the first step of a long dance. Intent and tact matter. Do you have examples to share of cover letters gone bad or done right? Iâd love to hear from you. Are you struggling with cover letter issues? I can help!

Dont be a hero - When I Grow Up
Dont be a hero - When I Grow Up Every month, Im gonna stretch my designer-y skills and give ya my mantra (or a great quote from someone else, or a passing thought, or an a-ha! moment) as an image. You can print it out and tape it up where ya need to remind yourself of it, or download it as your desktop wallpaper, or add it to your Pinterest boardwhatever ya want! Luke and I have passed this saying to one another for the last few weeks. At this point, he or I can start, Remember, babe and the other one can finish, dont be a hero. Sure, it might look awesome (Id be lying if I said I didnt wanna throw down some Black Widow moves after seeing The Avengers), but reallygetting punched in the face or tied to a chair or having to save New York City single-handedly is not my idea of a good time. So take your lunch breaks, and take your Mom up on getting your watch batteries changed, and ask for help loading your written-in-advance-blog-content when youre recovering from boob cancer surgery (hypothetically, of course).Dont Be a Superhero.
